Christian Science found me after a long journey, which I had undertaken for a family reason and which involved sacrifice of the post which I thought was my only means of support. Whilst reading the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by our Leader, which I had purchased in the hope of relieving the sufferings of my mother, I was healed of unbelief and antagonism towards religion, which I had felt for more than twenty years. This revelation, which immediately removed doubt as to the healings wrought by Jesus, and misunderstanding of the nature of his birth, was accompanied by restoration of normal eyesight, enabling me to discard glasses which I had worn for some years. Drugs—especially for sick headaches—and aperients, which I had used constantly, were also discarded from that date. I gained freedom in one day from enslavement to the smoking habit, without any conscious effort on my part; and this greatly encouraged me.

Christian Science has solved financial trouble as well as healing me physically and morally. When I was in dire need of money, and apparently without means of supply, the fears usually engendered by such conditions did not prevail over the gratitude and trust in God which Christian Science inspires, and as a result the human need was wonderfully met.

Through the regenerating power of Spirit in my thinking, a transformation has been wrought in my outward circumstances. I have been impelled to take forward steps, including several long sea voyages, and transference of abode from one country to another, at short notice and at a time when lack of employment or regular source of income, combined with the adverse monetary exchange and the world's economic malaise argued for time-honored methods of economy. But with the help of a consecrated practitioner, at times thirteen thousand miles distant from me, God's laws of supply and progress were proved to prevail over arguments of lack and delay. I am most grateful for lessons learned from these experiences, including the one that "we must forsake the foundation of material systems, however time-honored, if we would gain the Christ as our only Saviour" (Science and Health, p. 326).
