I want to express my gratitude for having been led to...
I want to express my gratitude for having been led to Christian Science when in great need of help. I was discouraged, broken in health through overwork and grief from loss of an only child. My husband had been pronounced incurable by four physicians. He was suffering from consumption, heart trouble, gall bladder trouble, and rheumatism. He was taken to a hospital in another city, but was sent home with no more hope than was given before. After arriving home he became worse, and the doctor, who was again called, said that he could hardly last until next day. Then I turned to the Bible and read Proverbs 3:5, and sought earnestly through prayer for wisdom and guidance. My prayer was answered. My husband remembered hearing of a woman who had done healing work. I went to see that Christian Science practitioner, who lived twenty-five miles away, and told her my trouble. She asked me if I believed in God. I had always believed in God, having been brought up in a Christian home, and when I left it to come to America my mother's last words to me were not to forget God. The practitioner talked to me for a while and gave me a copy of Science and Health to read, and she said that when I got home, my husband would be up and all right. When I arrived home he was up, as I had been told, and had eaten dinner, much to the surprise of the other members of the family.
At the time the textbook was given to us I could not read English at all, and my husband could read it only very little, but we soon learned. I was lifted out of the bondage of discouragement and grief, and have since been healed of indigestion, sore throat, and bowel trouble; but far more than for all else I am grateful for the joy of a practical understanding of the Bible gained through the study of the textbook. I praise God for the revealed truth; for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; for our beloved Leader; for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church; for class instruction; for the privilege of owing all of our Leader's writings and subscribing to all the periodicals. I desire to express my gratitude through daily useful living.
