A Day Set Apart
To Christian Scientists who are eligible and have availed themselves of the privilege of class instruction, as provided by our beloved Leader in the Manual of The Mother Church, the annual Association meeting comes as a day set apart, to use her words, "for the furtherance and unfolding of Truth" (Retrospection and Introspection, p. 50). This unfolding comes, first, through anticipation and preparation; secondly, through participation and attention; thirdly, through review and retrospection.
As a consistent athlete obeys the training regulations, in order to be a worthy participant in any game, so a true Christian Scientist, who, in the metaphor used in Hebrews, is running the race that is set before him, daily conforms himself through self-abnegation, prayer, and consecration to a fitness to receive more of good. But when an occasion presents itself in which he desires especially to fit himself to be in readiness to receive more of the spiritual healing truth, the student may well turn to the Concordances for guidance in specific preparation. With their aid thoughts that are still remote and nebulous may be crystallized into clear-cut gems of true thinking.
Human thoughts give place to angelic messages, and members of the Association, becoming increasingly purged of materiality, find themselves of one Mind, in one place, the recipients of God's blessing in greater measure than ever before. With one in whom Christian Science has lifted motives, aims, and ambitions above self, the supreme object of life is to bring the kingdom of heaven on earth. Christian Science emphasizes the truth taught by Christ Jesus and restated by Mrs. Eddy, that the kingdom of heaven is here and now, and not merely a desirable place to be reached after death. Therefore, furtherance and support of this great Cause is the joy, the privilege, and the duty of each and every one who has this supreme aim in life.
