"There is lifting up"

In his argumentative attempt to correct and comfort Job, Eliphaz the Temanite voiced a message which turns one's thought to God in grateful expectancy of deliverance from ill; he said that if Job would turn to God he would "be built up"; and he added, "When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person." Perhaps Eliphaz had such a personal sense of both good and evil that his thought lacked the healing unction of divine Love; for from the response to his words it appears that they seemed empty and vain to Job, who prayed that he might find God and understand His word. By means of clearer revelation of the truth Job was later directed aright, and through humility, forgiveness, and love he gained his healing and the restoration of his goods. It was proved to him that the lifting up of his own thought served to comfort and save him.

Centuries after the book of Job was written, the marvelous uplifting power of the Christ was proclaimed clearly and proved completely by Jesus of Nazareth. Those who were in the depths of despair because of sickness appealed to him, and, feeling the invigorating, normalizing influence of divine law which he utilized, they were healed. Others who were shackled by sin gained release and redemption as they touched the hem of the Master's mental robe—the seamless robe of the pure and perfect reflection of God. Jesus' thought was exalted so far above mortal and material beliefs that he annulled the so-called laws of limitation and gravitation when he fed the multitudes and walked on the water. After raising Lazarus and two others from the dead, he mastered the last enemy for himself; and later his thought ascended completely above material beliefs and he entered into unmarred communion with the Father.

Through Mrs. Eddy's prayerful study of the Bible and her clear perception of the spiritual significance of Christ Jesus' words and works, her thought became so uplifted that she experienced a physical healing, which led her to the discovery of the Science of Christianity. Working under divine guidance and inspiration, she shared with the world the revelation of God and His healing law which had continued to unfold to her while writing her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Through the study of this wonderful book men have found and are finding that, no matter what darkening, depressing, and distressing condition or situation may confront them, "there is lifting up"—there is light and liberation. The Science or exact, demonstrable understanding of God and His creation, including man, naturally and inevitably lifts one's thought and experience higher in the scale of happiness, health, and harmony. This great blessing is available to all honest, humble seekers for Truth; and the power of God "shall save the humble person."
