The outward manifestations of God's goodness in physical...
The outward manifestations of God's goodness in physical healing are indeed wonderful and glorious; but to the earnest Scientist who is striving every day to cast out evil from his thought and to have only the Mind of Christ, the inward renewing is the greater cause for rejoicing; the wonderful glimpses of Truth, the daily increasing understanding, which brings with it increased power over evil,—these are our greatest blessings.
About two years ago, my six-year-old son, while running on the cement sidewalk, fell headlong, injuring his lips very severely. The lacerations and swelling seemed very dreadful, and those around him declared it would be several days before he could eat. I reached him about ten minutes after this occurred, and taking him in my arms, began to treat him at once, trying to shut out the sense of everything but Truth. In a short time he was peacefully asleep, and when we reached home, about two hours later, he ate a hearty supper without the slightest inconvenience. The swelling disappeared instantly and in a few days there was not a single mark left.
Last winter we proved God's power to heal in a very severe case of hemorrhage. The attack came suddenly the day before Christmas, when I was preparing for a large house party. I had no help and felt that I must go on with my work. I overcame the sense of suffering and weakness, and was ready to meet my guests and entertain them. The hemorrhage contined for days, but without hindering my work. On Sunday, however, there came entire collapse, accompanied by pain and high fever. The fever was overcome instantly that evening by this word of God: "Before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear." I was unable to rise in the morning, so we telephoned to a practitioner. I spent only that one day in bed, and had no more pain, though for a few days I seemed too weak to walk. My health has been normal ever since.
