I first heard of Christian Science through the healing of my brother of a very severe attack of throat trouble. For a number of years before that I had been almost a confirmed invalid. Several times I had been given up to die from heart disease, and my doctor said that my lungs were so bad that I could hardly live a year. We were very skeptical in regard to Christian Science, especially doubting if there was any power in absent treatment; but as there was no help for me in anything else, my husband said that if Christian Science made me a well woman, he would believe there was something in it. We wrote to a practitioner, and I began to improve at once. In a few weeks I knew that the old diseases were gone, and we threw away more than a bushel basket full of medicine bottles, some full and some empty, for we knew we should never need material remedies again. I have never had any return either of the heart disease or the lung trouble.

Our first child had passed on at birth, but our little girl is strong and bright and has never had any serious illness. She is now over five years old, and is a very faithful little Scientist. Last spring she had an attack of earache, but overcame it herself in a few hours. At present I am doing all my own work, though I have two boarders and often have five or six extra for meals. I know that Christian Science has saved my life, and it has also given us a happy home where before we were never free from worry and anxiety.—Mrs. Carrie Patterson, Palo, Ia.
