THE TRAVELING MAN'S OPPORTUNITY

THERE is no class of men to whom Christian Science appeals more strongly than to traveling men. Their calling is beset with more vexations than the ordinary run of men have to encounter and their patience and forbearance are subjected to the severest tests. The traveling man certainly needs the strongest support obtainable to assist him in the proper performance of his duties and in their proper demonstration. What stronger support can be have than reliance upon divine Principle affords and obedience thereto in his dealings with his fellow-men?

I say this from personal experience. There was a time when I considered mesmeric will-power the proper medium to employ in selling goods, and this is an almost universal method among traveling men and is taught them by their firms and by some writers on the subject of salesmanship. I have found, however, in Christian Science that this is not an enduring method, and that it always results in erroneous conditions and dissatisfied customers, when you have succeeded in convincing them against their judgment and either sold them something they did not want or too much of the commodity you represent.

When I first beheld the light of Truth as exemplified by Christian Science, I saw the fallacy of animal magnetism and began the practice of the golden rule of doing to others as I would have them do to me. I demonstrated right from the start that this was far preferable to the old method, and it brought results far in excess of my most sanguine expectations, for the work was directed by divine Mind and only good can emanate from that source.
