The letter of J. F. Horne, in last issue of your paper,...

Fairhope (Ala.) Courier

The letter of J. F. Horne, in last issue of your paper, struck a note that interested me. When I first read Henry George's great book, "Progress and Poverty," there came to me a vision of the possibilities of a social life in which absolute justice prevailed; but it seemed to me that human nature must be changed before the ultimate of such a far-reaching reform as Mr. George proposed could be realized. Shortly after this I became interested in another wonderful book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Through the study of this book and the application of the Principle which it inculcates, according to the rules therein, I became conscious of a power capable of regenerating our human nature and making possible the dream of a perfected social order on earth.

At the same time I realized that this external order was but the outward manifestation of an inward spiritual change wrought by the divine Spirit in the human heart. Since that time my only creed has been Christian Science, and as I note the wonderful progress which this new, yet old, idea, first exemplified by the great Teacher, is making throughout the world, my hope of a new earth, "wherein dwelleth righteousness," grows stronger, and faith in the government of an all-wise, all-loving, and omnipotent and divine Mind is confirmed.

The supremacy of the divine Spirit will finally be made manifest, and justice will prevail on earth. Of this my heart is assured and reason approves, and I am satisfied.
