Christian Science teaches that there is but one Mind, one...

Edinburgh (Scot.) Dispatch

Christian Science teaches that there is but one Mind, one intelligence in the universe, and that this Mind or intelligence is God. Thus all true intelligence manifested in the universe is but the reflection of that central Mind or intelligence, God. This great fact was constantly maintained by the Master, who again and again disclaimed the possession of a mind or will of his own, and declared that he did nothing but what he saw the Father do, and that it was the Father who did the works commonly ascribed to his own personality. Any one who is familiar with the Old Testament will remember that the power and intelligence manifested by saint and sage, by Moses, Solomon, Elijah, Daniel, were regarded as the power and intelligence of God, and that humility and obedience are mentioned as qualities essential to the manifestation of such intelligence. In other words. the Bible teaches that as man surrenders the belief in an independent, personal mind of his own, he is able to reflect or manifest the intelligence of God, the Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus."

Christian Science certainly teaches that man should be successful, that poverty and failure are not in accord with God's will, but the student of this Science learns that in order to meet with honorable success he must part company with selfishness, false ambition, pride and hardness of heart—with the qualities which are unlike the divine—and that by seeking first the kingdom of God, his material needs will be supplied. To "persist in consciousness" in order to obtain a material object is simply mesmeric suggestion. According to Christian Science, such a course of action would always be wrong. We think that most men will agree that such a system, practised by unscrupulous people, would lead to grave abuses, and we believe the time is not far distant when men will desire to learn how to protect themselves from the so-called force of hypnotism. When that time comes, let them look into Christian Science.
