Our critic takes us to task for believing in an impersonal God. It may be of interest to know that the Christian Science concept of God is very admirably set forth in the Westminster Confession of Faith which has been substantially adopted by all evangelical Christian churches. This definition of God is, "There is one living and true God, who is infinite in being and perfection, a most pure spirit, invisible, without body, parts, or passions, immutable, immense, eternal, incomprehensible, almighty, most wise, most holy, most free, most absolute, most loving, gracious, long-suffering, abundant in goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin." So, then, if the Christian Scientists worship the God of the orthodox church, there is no ground for criticism.

Christian Science does not teach that man is a part of God, but agrees with John that "now are we the sons of God;" which great fact was established by Jesus, who said, "I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God." Christian Science is Christian in foundation, structure, and practice. Mrs. Eddy has not founded a new religion, but has simply awakened the world to the fact that Christianity has lost none of its power and that it is just as available today in the healing of disease as it was in Jesus' time.

The first tenet of the Christian Science church reads, "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life." When Christian Science denies the reality of sin, it does so in the sense that it is not of God and therefore is temporal, unreal. Mrs. Eddy says on page 327 of Science and Health, "The way to escape the misery of sin is to cease sinning. There is no other way."
