I am not a Christian Scientist, but claim the privilege...

I am not a Christian Scientist, but claim the privilege of giving a little testimony respecting an accident I experienced in February, 1907, and the good result derived from Christian Science treatment. I went to feed my horse early one morning, and unintentionally startled him. He suddenly jumped, and his foot struck my ankle-joint. The pain I felt was so intense that I had to sit down for a while, and when I recovered, I got up and went to the house. After a while my foot felt easy, and I went about my business as usual, but later in the day my limb became very painful and I found that I could not walk without assistance.

I deliberated in regard to calling a physician, and reasoned with myself that in all probability he would bandage my limb and prescribe a week or ten days' rest; so I decided to try Christian Science treatment and called for the assistance of a practitioner, whose prescription was that I should read in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, a book I had often seen about the house (other members of my family having been healed through Christian Science), but I had never looked into it. I opened it and read a page or two, then fell asleep; and when I awoke I felt quite peaceful, the limb being heavy, but with no pain. I remained quiet until supper-time, and then got up and with the assistance of a cane walked to the dining-room. I ate my supper, then sat up until bedtime. The next morning I got up as usual, and experienced no pain during that day, nor has there been any since. In appreciation of the good and speedy recovery, I have since that time taken much interest in Science and Health, and I intend to absorb as much of its teachings as possible.—I. Mantoux, Dallas, Tex.
