Mrs. Eddy, who discovered Christian Science, and...
Sydney (Australia) Telegraph
Mrs. Eddy, who discovered Christian Science, and founded this movement, revealed to the world that God never did and never will cause any of His children to suffer; and this very fact alone, based upon abundant proof, has been the means of healing thousands. What hope has any sufferer who is held under the spell that it is God's will he should be sick, or that God sent the suffering? If God caused the suffering it must be good to suffer; therefore, why try to be cured? Yet there are many submitting resignedly to the idea that it is part of God's will for them to be sick.
The method of treating disease through prayer by Christian Scientists is much misunderstood. A Christian Scientist never tries to pray a person into health according to the ordinary idea of prayer, but endeavors clearly to realize certain fundamental facts which equip the Scientist with power to deal with disease, and which bring comfort and health to many who turn to Christian Science for help as a last resource. One fundamental fact is, as previously stated, that God never made any one sick. Our Master said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
Christian Science goes to the seat of all ailments, and states unreservedly that the mental condition is the foundation of all suffering, whether it be heart disease, cancer, or even a headache; and when this statement is comprehended there will be no opposition to Christian Science, but all will be striving for that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus," and in proportion as this is attained will health and harmony reign.
