Manhattan (Kan.) Mercury
I agree with you that "disease is the result of wrong thinking, and can be cured by right thinking." A further explanation of what constitutes right and wrong thinking is necessary that your readers may have a clearer understanding of the teachings of Christian Science, lest it be confused with mental suggestion. Paul recognized this great truth when he said, "To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."
It is the false belief of life, substance, and intelligence apart from God—the erring human belief of a mind in matter, called mortal mind—that makes sin and disease. Christian Science recognizes these conditions as mistakes of mortals. They are erroneous; therefore, they must be corrected. As nothing but Truth corrects error, it becomes necessary to accept the admonition, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
The activities of Christian Science are upon a divine basis. They rest upon the eternal fact that there is but one Mind, God, who is the source of all true being. Through the realization that this one Mind is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent, mortals have dominion over the claims of sin and disease. One might think that two times two equals five, yet he could never know it; but it is possible to understand that two times two equals four, and to know the reason why.
