In the course of her remarks our critic says: "The Christian Scientists and other denominations that believe strongly in the power of 'suggestion' have a very large membership of men." I would ask your permission to comment briefly on this statement, because it conveys a mistaken yet popular belief regarding the relation of "suggestion" to Christian Science. The text-book of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mrs. Eddy, clearly shows that it is impossible to effect permanent healing by means of any method of "suggestion." Christian Science practice is based upon a scientific metaphysical understanding of the truth about God, man, and the universe, and shows that God sends only good, and not evil to mankind. An understanding of this divine law, even in a very small degree, enables one to throw off much fear, superstition, and anxious thought.

There must be a foundation in fact upon which every correct conclusion is based; and it should be apparent to all that absolute truth alone is the basis of all right thinking, and that no system of "faith-cure" or "suggestion" can possibly take the place of the truth which makes men free.
