When I became a student of Christian Science over twenty years ago, I was very unhappy and dissatisfied. I was a minister's daughter, but had always rebelled because I had been compelled to take part in church work and to set a good example; so after I married I did not attend church for eleven years, and prayed to God only in times of extremity, which was not often. A sister, who was afterwards healed through Christian Science, had a serious catarrhal trouble, and having heard of Christian Science we attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, which we ridiculed; but a few months later we began reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

I had not thought I needed healing for anything, but I was so interested in the book that I spent my entire spare time reading it, day and night, and thinking of this truth in my dreams as well. I had been troubled with constipation since childhood and took many kinds of medicine, with little effect. After two weeks' reading I realized I did not need to take medicines or use material remedies. To my surprise I also realized I had been healed of constipation. This healing has been permanent.

I had also been subject to colds and tonsillitis, and was usually either taking a cold or getting rid of one. The fear of exposure to weather of any kind was destroyed at once, and the belief in cold has also greatly lessened; so it is seldom I have a cold. Three children were born under Christian Science treatment, and conditions were very harmonious. Many so-called material laws, both before and after confinement, were broken, proving the truth as Jesus did when he healed "in defiance of what is called material law, but in accordance with God's law, the law of Mind" (Science and Health, p. 168). Many physical healings have taken place in the years that have followed. Contagious diseases have been quickly met, including measles, whooping cough, chicken pox, spinal meningitis, and diphtheria.
