Joy certainly entered our home when the right understanding...
Joy certainly entered our home when the right understanding of God came into it through the study of Christian Science. Many beautiful healings were experienced during the first few months, one of which I should like to relate.
Before I knew of Christian Science a physician had told me that an operation would be necessary before relief could be had from pain in my right side, due to appendicitis. Always a terrifying thought to me had been that of a surgical operation, and this statement made me far from happy. After studying Christian Science for perhaps a year, during which time the condition had hardly been thought of, I became suddenly extremely ill with terrible pain in my side. I was walking home, and being within a short distance of it I tried to go on. I had become so nearly paralyzed by the time I reached there that to walk alone was impossible. I was helped into bed and a practitioner, who was called immediately, lovingly began work. My mother placed a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, on the pillow beside me, and in a few moments I opened it. My eyes fell upon the words of Christ Jesus, "Be not afraid" (p. 410). To me, at that moment, they seemed the only words in the whole book. Instantly I felt that it was the fear of an operation that was causing the trouble, and said as much to my mother, who replied, "How can such a thought be possible when we have had so many wonderful proofs of healing in Christian Science!" At that moment the telephone rang. It was the practitioner calling, and I suddenly realized that I was well. Just one half hour had elapsed between the time I reached home and the time of the telephone call. The healing was complete.
Words cannot express gratitude such as one feels after an experience like this; one's life must do that.
