The Teacher

EDITH GADDIS BREWER

Jesus, great Teacher of the sons of earth,
Wondrous Exemplar of the lessons taught,
Inspirer of the effort for new birth
Which with the death of matter must be bought;
Thou, as a young lad, taught the elders law,
To Mary's waiting thought the truth didst give,
Explained the way till Nicodemus saw
Men must be born again if they would live.
Fisher of men, commander of the sea,
Healer of sorrow, sin, disease, and fear,
Showing by parables love's ministry,
Proving by miracles that God is here,
Thy teachings raise our thoughts up from the sod
To see, not sons of earth, but sons of God!
