The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Hamburg, Germany (First Church).

Lecturer: Bliss Knapp; introduced by Miss Elisabeth von Kracht, who said:—

Probably there has never been a time when mankind has been more anxious and eager than now to establish good will toward men and a permanenet peace among the nations. Christian Science shows that peace on earth is a present possibility. It is a practical religion, which demands from its followers daily proofs rather than profession, and which shows how all of us can do our part in bringing about the happy day of universal peace. My education was limited by family traditions and social prejudices; yet even as a small child I opposed this, being unwilling to see differences in my fellow-men, whether high or low, rich or poor, foreign or German. My old Protestant religion failed to satisfy me in this direction, and I shall never forget my joy when, after beginning the study of Christian Science, I realized that this religion brings a practical and full solution of the question and shows how to establish the true brotherhood of man. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 577), Mary Baker Eddy speaks of the "one Father with His universal family, held in the gospel of Love." It is this "gospel of Love" which calls back all the children of men to the great heart of our Father-Mother God, uniting all interests in the one Mind, healing and redeeming the world from hatred and strife, from sin and disease.
