True Individuality

In the unfolding perception of man's true being, the student of Christian Science finds it necessary to give earnest thought to the words "individuality" and "personality." Disappointment and unhappiness have often been experienced through blindly honoring human personality, only at length to realize its imperfections and frailty; but when, in such experiences, thought turns to God, the revelation of man's spiritual individuality comes with its abundant compensation.

Christian Science teaches us how to differentiate between right and wrong thinking. Whatever of good is expressed in human character is of God; and to God therefore belongs all honor. When we thus impersonalize good, we free ourselves and others from the possible adulation of erroneous thinking.

The real man's individuality is perfect, while the false sense of personality is imperfect. Spiritual individuality expresses true being in Godlikeness. It is the reflection of Life, Truth, and Love; and is therefore eternal, indestructible, imperishable, unchangeable, always at-one with God. Personality is variable; it may be attractive or repellent, aggressive or timid, forceful or weak; but it is always the expression of the so-called human mind.
