[Written for the Sentinel]

Omnipresent Love

To-day the Father's care encircles me,
And I may everywhere reflected see
His perfect image; wheresoe'er I go
May all the day His kind protection know,
May find in friendly smile or swift caress
A sweet reminder of His tenderness;
May sense, perhaps, beneath a lofty sky
How closely in His gentle arms we lie,
When shyly some small woodsy thing shall glide
Across a lonely path at eventide;
Or glancing up, I'll chance perhaps to see
The inky black of silhouetted tree
Against a flaming sunset's afterglow,
And something of His boundless glory know.
When night has come, perhaps alone I'll stand
In cooling winds, with eager open hand
Uplifted in an attitude of prayer,
And softly whisper: Father, everywhere
I feel Thy presence—know Thy tender love
As endless as the gleaming stars above;
And for these lessons I may learn each day,
I would be truly grateful, Lord, alway.
