Under the caption "The Cross of Christ" a critic states that "Christian Scientists no longer believe that there is such a thing as death, and hence they could not believe that Jesus died for sins."

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes, "Death will occur on the next plane of existence as on this, until the spiritual understanding of Life is reached" (p. 77). Numerous references might be quoted to show that so long as life is looked at from a material standpoint we shall be called upon to face the question of death; but if we are going to prove the words of St. Paul, "The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death," we must begin to recognize God, Spirit, as the only creator, and man as a spiritual and not a material being.

It is sufficient answer to the latter half of the criticism to quote Mrs. Eddy's own words: "Our Master fully and finally demonstrated divine Science in his victory over death and the grave. Jesus' deed was for the enlightenment of men and for the salvation of the whole world from sin, sickness, and death" (Science and Health, p. 45). The best answer to all criticism is the result obtained from the application of the subject under consideration, and proof may be seen in most cities and towns that through the correct teaching of Christian Science many have found God such a present help that they are able to echo the words, "Whereas I was blind, now I see."
