It is with a sense of deep gratitude that I would testify...

It is with a sense of deep gratitude that I would testify to the many blessings which I have received through Christian Science. From early girlhood I was constantly suffering, partly from hereditary troubles, according to the physicians' statement. When I reached the age of fourteen all these ailments, among them anemia, a weak back, and stomach trouble, seemed to come to a climax; indeed I may say that there seemed to be no part of my body which was not affected. I was told that God had sent these things to try me; but I thought this very unjust, especially as I had no home and was obliged to earn my living.

When I got to be twenty-one my condition was such that I almost despaired; but in a very strange manner I came to hold a position where I was told about Christian Science and given the Herold to read. At first my attitude was one of incredulity. Then mental anguish and sorrow were added to my other troubles, and I wanted to put an end to my life, as I was tired of it all. But at the last moment, like a ray of light the thought of Christian Science made me turn back to give this teaching a trial. The understanding dawned upon me but slowly, and severe experiences always seemed to be necessary to make me advance toward the light. A few months later opportunity was afforded me to communicate with a Christian Science practitioner, who explained the truth to me and gave me her loving attention. My troubles disappeared in the degree that I understood, and I was enabled to help others, this in turn being a benefit to myself. I pray God that He may fit me to overcome all the disharmonies which at times present themselves, and that I may express genuine love toward all, thus to be indeed a good Christian Scientist.
