The Incorruptible

There was no uncertainty in Paul's mind when he wrote to the Corinthian church, "For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality." Paul recognized the possibility of the achievement; and undoubtedly he knew the Science of the method whereby it could be wrought. Christ Jesus had taught it to his followers; and, what is of far greater significance, had demonstrated that it was possible for him to overcome the belief of material life and intelligence,—to overcome that which is the corruptible by rising into the consciousness of man as spiritual and therefore incorruptible.

The teaching of Jesus was based entirely on his knowledge of God. Everything he told men about God was the absolute truth; and it was his spiritual understanding of the eternal, of reality, of the incorruptible, which enabled him to destroy the false belief of material law in the minds of the sick and the sinning who came to him, thereby restoring them to health and purity. Christian Science gives mankind the clearest understanding of God in accordance with the teachings of Jesus, and shows exactly what the incorruptible is, and consequently what is meant by the corruptible.

Throughout her writings Mrs. Eddy speaks of God as Mind; and since God is infinite, Mind is infinite. All that really exists is therefore the manifestation of Mind. Because Mind is infinite, Mind is eternal; so that all that is real or the manifestation of Mind is eternal or incorruptible. How does Mind manifest itself? In one way only, in ideas. What exists, then, as reality or the incorruptible is the divine Mind and Mind's ideas. These ideas are spiritual, and they reflect the qualities of perfect Mind and are altogether good. On page 88 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, "Ideas are spiritual, harmonious, and eternal," and then she goes on immediately thereafter to expose the counterfeit of these ideas in the words, "Beliefs proceed from the so-called material senses, which at one time are supposed to be substance-matter and at another are called spirits." Here the distinction is drawn between the real ideas of God and the false belief of material substance.
