My attention has been called to an article entitled, "Osborn on Isms and Science," in which Christian Science is erroneously classed with Spiritualism, Theosophy, and Buddhism, and all are defined as "doctrines of the devil." Whatever may be the effect of the teaching of Spiritualism, Theosophy, and Buddhism, permit me to say that the evangelist is entirely mistaken in classing Christian Science with them, or any of them, in any particular. The gentleman's dictum that Christian Science is of the devil does not make it so. I have no doubt that his mental concept of what Christian Science is, is a fearsome picture; but any one who investigates without prejudice the results upon men of the study and practice of Christian Science, will be convinced that the works wrought by it are good only. Christian Science is based upon the life and teaching of Jesus the Christ, and no doctrine so founded can be classed as devilish.

While the gentleman may not agree with the theory and practice of Christian Science, he can find nothing in its teaching or in the lives of its adherents which will warrant his statement. Christian Science comes to suffering humanity with a message of peace and healing. It brings to man a realization of his godlikeness, permitting him to claim the full heritage of the children of freedom from suffering and discord of every kind. It inculcates morality, purity, reverence, brotherly love, health. These doctrines are not of the devil. They bring man to a sense of his at-one-ment with God exemplified by Jesus, who so proved his divine relationship to God that he overcame every form of sin and disease and even death. His atonement does not relieve us from the necessity of proving individually our at-one-ment with God, but showed us the way to do it.

Christian Science does not deny the atonement of Jesus, but Mrs. Eddy with keen spiritual insight has interpreted its true meaning and shown its practical application to the lives of each of us.
