Twenty-three years ago I was an infidel
Twenty-three years ago I was an infidel. For twenty years I had denied all that Christians hold most sacred. During those years I became acquainted with sickness, disease, and suffering of all kinds. My only hope was in the doctors, and I took great quantities of their drugs, but they failed to heal me. Two of the ailments were stomach disorder and malignant ulcers on the tongue, pronounced incurable by reputable physicians. My weight became greatly reduced, and the tongue was growing worse all the time; in fact when Christian Science was presented to me by a friend, I was making arrangements to go to a noted specialist in Chicago to have my tongue removed.
Besides these two serious troubles I had been suffering for years from nasal catarrh, irregular heart action, ever recurring fever, and a throat affection. In my extremity I was willing to try anything that offered a hope of saving my tongue, so the advice of a friend was followed and a Christian Science practitioner was called. In a few treatments I was healed of all my troubles, and found myself perfectly well. This healing took place in Omaha in June, 1893, and since then I have not taken a drop of medicine, and have not ceased to enjoy perfect health. I have been eating and drinking anything set before me, and nothing has ever hurt me. My weight has increased, and not one of the ailments has returned.
Can any one wonder that after such proofs of the healing power of Truth I became a firm believer in Christian Science? Best of all, the Bible has become a very dear friend and guide through the help of that wonderful book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and Mrs. Eddy's other inspired writings. I am indeed thankful to God for what Christian Science has done for me, and my one great desire is to know more of the blessed truth which the Master has said shall make us free.—Emile E. Charpiot, Portland, Ore.
