Seven years ago I was to material sense a wreck, both mentally and physically, suffering from what is called a nervous breakdown, which had been brought about by financial losses and a weakened physical condition. Christian Science had been recommended to me by several of my friends, and although I had no idea what it was, in my extremity I was willing to try anything which could extend hope to me. On a Wednesday evening I visited a Christian Science church, and was wonderfully impressed with that first service within the beautiful structure filled with peace and love.
As a result, I asked for treatment from a Christian Science practitioner, and afterward purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, which I read and studied. My health soon became normal, and the desire for tobacco left me without the slightest effort on my part. Harmony was restored in my business affairs, and I was able to dispose of my interests and turn my attention to something more in accordance with my new mode of thinking. I had learned one lesson in this new effort,—that of obedience. I have traveled extensively, but have never found anything to compare with the peace of mind to be found in Christian Science. Especially at this time, when the world is living in discord and strife, do I express my gratitude to God, who fills all space, to the living presence of the Christ-power calming the waves of human sense, and to Mrs. Eddy, the noble woman who discerned the "signs of the times" and was able to give to the world a message of Truth, before which, as she tells us on page 577 of Science and Health, "mighty potentates and dynasties will lay down their honors."—Sidney Joseph Euson, Chicago, Ill.
