I am very grateful for what Christian Science has done...
I am very grateful for what Christian Science has done for me. My first experience with its healing happened in the summer of 1907. I had at that time been reading the Sentinel for a year or more, and by trying to practise the teachings of Christian Science I began to find more joy in living, became more capable and performed my daily work more easily, and this by knowing each day that God gave me intelligence and strength to do my work. I had for nineteen years been troubled with dizzy spells and had often to be helped home from my work ; and as I grew older these spells became more frequent, the last one being very severe. After three days' idleness, with very little improvement, I felt that I must get help. I had lost all faith in the healing power of drugs, so I applied to a Christian Science practitioner on Saturday afternoon. I worked the following Monday, and I have lost no time since on account of illness, but it was six weeks later before I was entirely healed; and I have been entirely free from the disease since then.
During the winter of 1905-6, I slipped and fell one morning, injuring my arm. It was examined by a medical student, who said that I should call a surgeon to remove a broken piece of the bone. As I was able to work, however, and suffered little pain, I did not do as he advised, and in fact forgot it. The following winter I again fell, striking the same elbow as before, and after that I suffered violent pain and my arm became weak. On account of the industrial depression there had been no work for me for some time, and for financial reasons I did not like to ask a practitioner to treat me, although I knew if I did the help would be cheerfully given. I was now attending Christian Science services regularly, reading the Lesson-Sermon and the other literature daily, and hoped that I would be able to overcome this condition myself. A few weeks later, a Christian Science practitioner learned of my condition and offered me treatment, which I gladly accepted, and got instant relief, though the pain returned time and again. At such times, however, as soon as I could get word to the practitioner I got relief, and later, when I got work, I was always able to do all that was required of me. I was treated for over a year before this trouble finally disappeared, but my arm is now strong and I am stronger physically than I have been for years. I am working every day at my trade, blacksmithing, and shall be seventy-three years of age in June. I cannot be too grateful for the good Christian Science has done me, physically and spiritually.
