Christian Science agrees with the Scriptures which declare that "all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made," and that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." From the religious tenets of Christian Science as found on page 497 of Science and Health we read: "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life." "We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God's image and likeness." Christendom accepts as true these words of the Master, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." "He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber."

The wonderful works performed by Jesus demonstrate the omnipotence and omnipresence of God (that Truth is available now) and afford positive proof that a spiritual understanding and application of the Principle of being is the way of salvation; thus he declared, "He that believeth on me, the works that i do shall he do also." This Galilean Prophet or Son of God gave to the world that wonderful command, "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. ... And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." This command is just as imperative, and the promise just as sure, today as when it was uttered by the Saviour, Christ Jesus. The ministry of the Master being one of works, he recognized sin and sickness as one and the same, for he said, "For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk."

Without doubt our clerical critic believes that prayer will save the sinner; then should not the prayer of faith—which is spiritual understanding—heal the sick? The Scriptures declare that "the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much," also that "faith without works is dead;" and of the barren fig tree Jesus said, "Cut is down." It is presumed that our friend is well paid for his services, for prayers which reclaim the sinner; then it should not be thought wrong nor unchristian for those whose prayers heal the sick to receive compensation, as the "laborer is worthy of his hire." Christian Science has multitudes of living witnesses that God's power to heal disease as well as to destroy sin is available today—it is here and now; and an honest investigation will find many in this city who have been healed through Christian Science.
