Christian Science proves its right to be called Christian...

Kenora (Ont.) Miner and News

Christian Science proves its right to be called Christian by not only teaching its followers to believe in the doctrines of Jesus but actually to put those doctrines and commands into practice, in so far as they understand them, in the healing of sickness and the overcoming of sin. Jesus taught us to judge men "by their fruits," and according to his standard Christian Science is fully entitled to be considered Christian; it is also scientific, because it is the science or true knowledge of God, and when understood can be demonstrated in a practical way as surely as can a knowledge of the science of mathematics.

Mrs. Eddy's book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," is not a mass of illogical contradictions, as averred, but a consistent and logical treatise, absolutely in accord with and based upon the Bible and the teachings of our great Master. It teaches that God is All-in-all, the only Mind, Life, substance, and intelligence, and that He is Spirit; and every statement in Science and Health is a logical deduction from these premises. This book is daily read and studied, in conjunction with the Bible, by persons in all walks of life, from the highly educated to those with little or no education, and is understood sufficiently to prove the truth of its teachings by actual demonstration in the healing of sickness and sin. Christian Scientists do not place their text-book above the Bible, as any one acquainted with Christian Scientists knows. They accept it as a commentary on the Bible, or, as its title indicates, a "Key to the Scriptures," and value it because it has made plain to them the teachings of Scripture and enabled them to some extent to put those teachings into actual practice. The first tenet of all Christian Science churches is, "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health, p. 497).
