Five years ago Christian Science found me in a hopeless condition of physical suffering and mental depression. The first time I attended a Christian Science service the sense of certainty that God had heard my prayer for deliverance from an unbearable condition came to me like a beam of light bringing salvation. And how fully have my expectations been realized! I soon saw that I had to give up a feeling of hatred which I had cherished for years, and that the old man must be put off if I would experience the joys of divine Love. In less than six weeks the recognition of the truth had freed me of distressing rheumatism. Although doubts and severe struggles came, yet a peace unknown to me filled my consciousness, and with the growing understanding of God's omnipotence and of omnipresent Love, the nothingness of evil which seems so real to us, the fear that sooner or later I would share the fate of a near relative and become insane, disappeared. Sleeplessness was displaced by refreshing sleep, as the result of my thought being turned into healthy channels.

It became evident that the grain of truth which we had apprehended was bearing fruit also in our family, for loving-kindness, mutual understanding, and obligingness cannot fail to be manifested where every one tries to know his own faults and to destroy them. We have had no physician for the past five years, and have relied solely upon God as our helper in cases of appendicitis, acute lung trouble, and in many other ailments of our children. Last winter I had a stubborn attack of throat trouble, pronounced rather serious by the physician who had to be summoned to write a certificate, on account of my having to leave work. I declined his services, however, and with two weeks' treatment from a Christian Science practitioner here the trouble was overcome. Last summer our two-year-old boy was taken ill with measles, accompanied with high fever and severe bowel disorder. The child evidently was suffering a good deal, and we became fearful. This occurred during our vacation time, while we were up in the mountains, so we wired to a practitioner in Zurich for treatment, which was taken up at once. On the evening of the same day the child became less restless, and on the sixth day he was playing outdoors in the sunshine, well and happy, to the astonishment of the neighbors. We were surprised ourselves at the quick improvement, which was to us an indubitable proof that to divine power there is no space removal.

Christian Science has been a great blessing to me in my work, where it has been my privilege to see more and more that Love alone governs man and is more powerful than evil in all its phases. Thus I and my family owe unspeakable gratitude to God, and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has again pointed out the way to Truth. I also wish to thank all those who work so fearlessly and with so much self-sacrifice for the Christian Science cause. We can prove our gratitude only through unflinching and faithful adherence to the path we have chosen, and which alone leads unto blessedness.
