After reading the many testimonies of healing, and of...

After reading the many testimonies of healing, and of love and gratitude therefor, which come to us so often and so speedily through our periodicals, I feel I would like to send a small expression, of my own gratitude for all the help I have received through their pages. For many years before I heard of Christian Science, I nearly if ever knew what it meant to be out of pain. It is not necessary to go into details, but when the most eminent surgeons and doctors had to operate severely on many occasions, it is easy to understand that they must thought thought it was necessary to take such measures. I am not ungrateful to the doctors for all their kindness to me in those dark days, but I had to learn, as many others have done in Christian Science, that there is but one healer, even God, divine Love, who as the psalmist saith, "forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases."

The time came when I heard of the wonderful healing in Christian Science of the daughter of a great friend of mine, so I determined to look into its teachings for myself, and was almost instantaneously healed from very discordant conditions upon reading the text-book of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Later I went to a practitioner for help, as an abscess had formed internally and to sense I was suffering great pain. Under absent treatment this condition was met and destroyed in a very short time, with no after effects or loss of strength in any way, and for this I was deeply thankful. It was indeed finding the truth which sets us free from so much that is unlike God, good. I have always found that whenever I have applied these teachings faithfully, honestly, and intelligently, for myself as well as for others, the human sense of discord, sickness, or sorrow has been lifted, and through the overcoming of each experience I have gained a higher and better understanding of the all-ness of God and His Christ, and the peace which passeth all understanding has followed.

During these years many blessings have come into my life, and I have to thank God for the greatest blessing of all, the blessing of a great sorrow overcome through the teachings of Christian Science. Eighteen months ago I received a cable from South Africa, telling me that my youngest son had met with a fatal accident. For a moment everything seemed to stand still (for he was my dearest on earth). Then I remembered God, and went to Him in silent prayer, as we are taught in Christian Science. During that night I got such a realization of God as Life, and of Life reflected in His creation, that all sense of personal possession left me, and I was able to give that child into the arms of divine Love, his rightful and eternal place, and when the morning came that sorrow was healed. I was able to go out and do my work all that next day, and indeed I can gratefully and honestly say that this has been a wonderful experience to me. Before testifying to this I have had to prove step by step that I had made no mistake, for to human sense there has been long waiting for details, inquiry, and later the saddest trial of all had to be met (and still that wonderful peace). It was just God—"God with us"—and I have also been learning better during these months the meaning of those words, "Whatever blesses one blesses all" (Science and Health, p. 206); and Paul's admonition, "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." I thank God and His Son Christ Jesus for Christian Science, and for our dear Leader, whose wonderful writings and noble example have made it possible to apply the teachings of the Master to every-day life, and to enable unnumbered thousands to rise up and call her blessed.
