THE LECTURE SERVICE
Supplementary to the publication of the appointment to the board of lectureship for the official lecture year, from July 1, 1911, to June 30, 1912, in last week's issue of the Sentinel, it is fitting to call attention to Section 4, Article XXXII of the Manual of The Mother Church, which requires that each branch church shall annually provide for one or more lectures, and in this connection to note some of the details which make for satisfactory service.
Letters are frequently received from churches and societies asking for information as to the proper mode of procedure to be followed in securing a lecturer. The board of lectureship has prepared a printed circular designed to answer all questions that may arise with those entrusted with the responsibility of arranging for lectures, and the importance of these instructions requires that each church officer should be thoroughly familiar with them. Copies of this circular are therefore being mailed by the board of lectureship, simultaneously with this issue of the Sentinel, to the clerks of all churches and societies advertised in the Journal. A sufficient number will be found in each package to supply each officer of the church with a separate copy, and it is desired that the clerk, in whose care they are sent, shall distribute them to these officers for their information. Attention is especially directed to the following points:
Applications for lectures should be made by each church or society, through its clerk, to that member of the board of lectureship whose services are desired, at his address as given in this circular. The board itself should not be asked to designate any particular lecturer, and the board does not keep a record of the whereabouts of its members except as it appears in the Sentinel in the weekly list of "Lectures to be Delivered."
