As an article from Leslies which appeared in your issue of Dec. 20 may produce some misapprehension as to Mrs. Eddy's teachings, I would like to state that Christian Science does not teach a "denial of the physical experience of life." It, however, teaches that God does not afflict man, for He created only good; hence, sin, sickness, pain, discord, or that which may interfere or disturb the harmony, peace, or happiness of man, does not emanate from Him, is not the result of the operation of spiritual law, has no part in the divine order of things; therefore it must be abnormal, and should be contended with and eliminated. Inasmuch, then, as these abnormalities are not of God, Spirit, but are temporal and fleeting, not being permanent, immortal, eternal, and enduring as are the things of His creating, they are not real; and it is in this sense that in Christian Science they are regarded as unreal.

The basic teaching of Christian Science is that God, Spirit, is the sole creator of the universe, including man, and that man is made in His image and likeness, with dominion over all the earth. It then becomes apparent that it is God's spiritual law which operates and governs all. Thus man governed by spiritual law enjoys the fruits of Spirit, health, happiness, peace, and contentment. Jesus the Wayshower (who showed man how to live in accord with the divine law), being willing to allow spiritual law to govern him in all his conduct, healed all manner of disease. He used no drugs, followed no medicinal or so-called scientific lines, but repudiating all material means he accomplished his "mighty works" solely by the natural operation of the divine law.

Spiritual law is absolute, unchanging, it operates for all time; therefore it is as available for healing the sick today as it was two thousand years ago; and many thousands are testifying to this fact, having been restored to health after every other means for obtaining relief had failed. It then becomes apparent that this spiritual healing, as taught and practised by Jesus, is not supernatural, not in opposition to law, but results from the activity of divine law and therefore is absolutely scientific, making Jesus, as Mrs. Eddy has written, "the most scientific man that ever trod the globe" (Science and Health, p. 313); thus healing through spiritual law is strictly scientific.
