It is being daily proven by practical demonstrations of the healing of physical and moral diseases, that Christian Science is both scientific and Christian. Science is defined as exact knowledge; and if knowledge of things material is commonly denominated science, how much more should the knowledge of heavenly things be entitled to that distinction. Christian Science is the demonstrable knowledge of God and man and the Science of being, and proof of this is seen in the restoration of the sick and sinful through spiritual means alone. That Christian Science is Christian is recognized in its effects upon the lives of those whom it reaches and benefits. The sinner is reformed, the sorrowing comforted, and the thoughts of men are exalted to the apprehension of God.

It is difficult to understand how a professed teacher of Christianity can take pleasure in belittling the healing work of Christian Science when he remembers how the gospel records of the works of Christ Jesus teem with accounts of his wonderful work of healing. When John the Baptist sent two of his disciples to Jesus inquiring of him, "Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me." That was sufficient for John the Baptist, and it is being found sufficient for many others at this time. At a great church congress a few months ago, one of the clergymen present said the jewel which had been thrown away by the church was picked up by a woman; and, after much discussion, a resolution was passed and a committee appointed to investigate and report upon the phenomena of mental healing that is so much in evidence today. The church is beginning to recognize the fact that "the stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner."

In Christian Science, new birth is the regeneration that is mentioned by St. Paul, in Ephesians (iv, 22-24), where he admonishes: "That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." It is the process of transformation that is accomplished by what the apostle calls a "renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
