Christian Science and mental suggestion are as opposite...

Independence (Kan.) Evening Star

Christian Science and mental suggestion are as opposite as the poles—one is human, the other is divine; therefore they can in no way be classified as one and the same. As commonly understood, mental suggestion is the exertion of the human will; it is the control of one human mind by another, and can be used for evil purposes; it is the operation of the "carnal mind," which "is enmity against God."

Christian Science recognizes the spiritual facts of being as did Paul when he said, "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." Christian Science accepts as true the Scriptural record of man as created in the image and likeness of God, also that "God is Spirit." Therefore the demonstrations of Christian Science are upon a spiritual basis; they rest upon the unchanging fact that God is the only Mind. The Christian Science prayer which heals the sick is the spiritual realization of man's unity with God—God is, and man is His image and likeness. Cause and effect being inseparable, God and the real man coexist. Jesus understood this truth, for he said, "I and my Father are one." "All things that the Father hath are mine." As the Father is perfect, the Son must remain perfect; thus because of spiritual law the real man lives, has perfect health, and is happy, and not by reason of suggestion.
