Words are inadequate to express the gratitude I feel...

Words are inadequate to express the gratitude I feel toward God for giving to us through Mrs. Eddy an understanding whereby we may help to lift the burden of sin, sickness, and discord from our fellow-mortals, in the way Christ Jesus taught us. Many are the times that we can apply the divine Principle to our daily needs, and I wish to tell of one instance of the good that I have received through Christian Science. About two years ago I was stricken with what the doctor called erysipelas. My friends had gathered around me, looking for my death at any time, but one of them sent for a Christian Scientist, who came to my aid, and she sent for a practitioner to treat me. I was the only one in town who was interested in Christian Science, and the only one in my family, so there was much antagonism to meet; but I was healed, and am well today and can do any kind of work that belongs to a woman of my age, which is sixty-eight years. I give God through Christian Science the praise for the good I received.

Mrs. Jane Umbarger, Melvin, III.

I was the nurse in Mrs. Umbarger's case, and can scarcely find words to express the conditions, as they seemed to me. The patient's appearance was most alarming, the features being very badly swollen, and the swelling continued to spread until it had enveloped the whole body, passing down to the limbs. The disease, however, was met and overcome so quickly in Christian Science that it disappeared much faster than it had come. The first night the odor was so bad that it seemed I could not endure it, and there was a partial paralysis of the body which added greatly to the difficulty. I have often thought of how serious was the condition and how quickly it was overcome, for after my stay of only twelve days it was nearly all healed, and the patient was up and walking about.—Mrs. M. Y. McElwain.
