Mrs. Eddy did not establish a new religion nor evolve a new sect. She simply called the world's attention to the vital fact that primitive Christianity had lost none of its efficacy to heal the sick and sinful, and that it is just as available today to meet the needs of mortals as it was in Jesus' time. In other words, Christian Science is practical Christianity—no more, no less. Consequently, to assume that Christian Science will wane is to conclude that Christianity will do likewise, for they are identical. This statement does not rest on mere assertion, but is substantiated by proof of the most practical kind, namely, the healing of all manner of diseases and the transforming of sinners into consecrated followers of Christ. This is the measure of proof established by the Master, who said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also."

Christian Science, or, as its name indicates, an exact knowledge of Christianity, is not dependent upon personality in this age any more than it has ever been. Prophets and disciples have passed away, but the prophecy of Jesus has been fulfilled: "Heaven and earth shall pass away; but my words shall not pass away."

The discovery, growth, and accomplishments of Christian Science seem almost impossible, but unmistakably prove its divine origin. In 1866 there was only one Christian Scientist on earth, a lone New England woman, who consecrated herself to the task of imparting to suffering humanity that which, if practised, would free the race from sin and sickness. Firm in her selfless toil and struggle against abuse, ridicule, and persecution, she persevered, sustained by the Mind of Christ, until today the Christian Science movement is without parallel in religious history.
