I had been member of an orthodox church and a faithful Bible student for ten years, seeking diligently for the full salvation our Master taught and demonstrated. During these years of "ups and downs," I managed to give up much of self and lean upon God—upon what I then supposed Him to be. As I looked more deeply into the doctrines taught, I began to see that there was something wrong in the views of the atonement, foreordination, etc., and when listening to our pastor's discourses on these subjects I used to say to myself that some time I should know the truth.

That time came, all unexpectedly and in a manner quite foreign to my anticipations. I was in the country, seeking hourly for a deeper religious experience, when it became very clear to me that I needed Christian Science. I did not know what that was or how obtained, but I had heard of a person who was said to be a Christian Scientist, so I wrote to her and asked what literature I needed. She sent me some pamphlets, also a Sentinel and a Journal, which I read and reread, and they were truly the most satisfying spiritual food I had ever had. In a few days I had a copy of Science and Health. I took it, unopened, in my hand, and there came to me a realization that there were in it things hard to accept, but I vowed then and there to receive its teachings, feeling assured that I would always study it, always love it. Then, with thought turned to God with all the yearning of a hungry soul, asking for divine guidance, I opened this book and began to read. As I read the spiritual uplift was wonderful, and I cannot describe the rapture I experienced as Truth touched the waiting thought and began to unfold to my benighted understanding; nor is this unfoldment of the new heaven and the new earth a thing of the past; it continues to grow brighter and brighter as I strive daily to put off the old and realize the new.

I have been reading less than three years and have had many beautiful demonstrations. I have been healed of liver and spinal troubles, loss of memory, and many other ailments, physical, mental, and moral, among which I might mention worry, despondency, and dark forebodings. I am thankful to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her life of purity and labor of love, and to the faithful workers standing on the watch-towers of Zion, to whose vigilance and effective declarations of Truth I am greatly indebted.
