The pleasant duty has devolved upon me of expressing...
The pleasant duty has devolved upon me of expressing publicly my gratitude for all the benefits which have come to me and mine through Christian Science. We have been in Science for the past three years, and it would take too much space to tell of all the instances in which it has brought us spiritual and physical help. I will therefore confine myself to a brief statement of our healing experience. My daughter was the first to experience help. She had been suffering for years with very severe headaches, but thanks be to God, they disappeared with three treatments in Christian Science and have never returned. Next came my wife, who for eight to ten years had been suffering with gout and rheumatism, and had had medical treatment for years without getting relief. Three years ago the pain grew so severe that she could not raise herself alone in bed, but with a few treatments in Christian Science she was free from all pain and she has never had a return of this trouble. My second daughter was so unfortunate as to fall, striking the back of her head on' a hard floor, while taking gymnastic exercises, so that she became unconscious. As she complained of severe pain after regaining consciousness, I asked a Christian Scientist for help. With two treatments the pain left, and she was able to resume her occupation on the third day.
In September, 1907, my third daughter was suddenly taken ill, and the physician for whom I had to send in order to comply with the law, pronounced it a case of fever. He thought it would be necessary to operate on the throat, but to this I would not consent. I did not give her any medicine, either, -but committed her to the charge of a Christian Scientist, and in a week's time this illness was overcome. A few days later she was again taken ill, this time with rheumatism and severe pain in the knees and feet. The physician said we could not expect her to recover in less than three months; but with eight treatments in Christian Science she was free from pain. In three weeks' times she was completely healed of both troubles, and has been well and able to do all her work till this day. She was helped by absent treatment.
In April, 1907, I was taken with an illness which left me with severe pain in the chest and back. Although I stayed in bed, the condition grew steadily worse, and as the physician whom I again had to consult in order to get a certificate could not relieve me, I asked a Christian Scientist to help me, with the result that after the fifth treatment I was free from pain and able to sleep. I wish to say here that it always afforded me joy to go to see the Scientist, that I might hear more of the truth and of divine Love, and I would get into a quiet and joyful mood. I was always greeted with words of comfort and told not to be afraid, but to have faith in God. Through the explanations of the truth the sense of fear has also disappeared, and our hearts are filled with love and gratitude to God, and to our beloved Leader, who has given us Christian Science, which reveals God as omnipotence and Love and which shows us that man is created in His image and likeness.
