I wish to express my deep gratitude to God, also to Mrs. Eddy, for what Christian Science has done for me. For several years I had been ailing, and was never well for long together, one complaint after another attacking me until I seemed quite an invalid. In November, 1907, I was obliged to take to my bed with acute lung trouble. The doctor was called in, but instead of getting better, I grew rapidly worse. My husband was most anxious about me, and asked the doctor what was really wrong,—if it was chronic lung trouble. He replied that it was worse than that; he feared it might quickly reach a fatal termination, but that he would do his very best for me.

I had heard of Christian Science from my mother and a sister, and had seen what a difference it had made in their lives, so one day I said I would like to try it. A practitioner was sent for and I gave up all medicine. After the first treatment I was able to sit up for a short time, a thing I had not been able to do for over a fortnight. On the fourth day I was able to leave my bedroom. The doctor had previously told my husband that I would not be able to leave my room for at least a month. In about eight days I was perfectly well and strong, able to take my place in the business, working longer hours and with greater freedom than I had done for several years.

I cannot express in words the gratitude I felt to be able to take up my work again, and to know that God is my strength, for, as the Bible says, "in him we live, and move, and have our being." For nearly four years I had suffered with an internal complaint which caused me great pain when I walked any distance, and it was not until I took my first walk, after the healing of my lungs, that I realized this ailment had entirely gone. Since then I can take long walks, cycle, and am perfectly free from pain. From the time of my healing, my husband, children, and myself have relied entirely on divine Love for our healing, in whatever sickness or trouble may confront us. We try to realize that to God's child there can be no sickness or sorrow, and to know that, whatever be the problem, divine Love is an ever-present reality, meeting every need.
