Three and a half years ago, on a to me very memorable day, Science and Health was brought me by a lady who was a student of its teachings. For six years prior to that afternoon, I had suffered from an internal disorder, also from nervous collapse, enduring that which no tongue or pen could describe, both mentally and physically. During that time I had many physicians (seven from New York city and Brooklyn), all of them able men so far as medical skill was concerned, and they did all that could be done by material means to relieve my suffering. Nearly all of them advised an immediate operation, to which I would not consent.

On one occasion, when I had suffered everything mentally and physically, night came on and I was almost ready to give up the struggle, but before lying back on my pillow there came from the very depths of my being this cry, "O God, if Thou art, show me the light that will lead me out of this suffering." It was on the following afternoon that Science and Health was handed to me, and I was healed immediately. After reading but a few pages I emptied the contents of a bottle of medicine that had just been purchased. I was not only healed of the internal and nervous trouble, but also of a bowel disorder which was chronic and for which I had been treated for years by various doctors but had never been permanently relieved.

From the day that I came into Christian Science I have never used any material remedy and have never needed one, for I have been healed—perfectly. I also had a felon on one of my fingers, and while it lasted the usual time, it never gave me the slightest inconvenience. Another demonstration was made in respect to my feet, from which I suffered greatly in warm weather, having bunions and also corns; but after my healing, while in a mountainous country, I walked ten miles, all the party declaring that I could never make the trip. I was, however, the only one who did not sit down to rest either going or returning, and they all marveled at it and could not understand how I could do it. My husband was cured of the tobacco habit after he had smoked for sixteen years. This healing was to him very wonderful. He was also cured of chronic stomach trouble, for which he was always taking medicine, but he has never taken any since our coming into Science.
