I am glad to testify to the practical good that Christian Science has brought into my life. For the healing of physical ailments I have found Christian Science to be a present and always effective remedy. A tendency to take cold from exposure or sudden change of weather has been overcome through the knowledge gained from Science and Health, that God "is not the author of barbarous codes," that man is spiritual and subject to spiritual laws only, and that "matter can make no conditions for man" (pp. 381, 120). As a cure for moral ailments it is now plain to me that a knowledge of God and His Christ, as taught in Christian Science, is the one and only remedy, for this gives to humanity higher and purer motives and aims, all leading upward. This spiritual tendency accomplishes that which the fear of punishment fails to do, and enables men to be truly honest.
Mrs. Eddy, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" as well as in all her other writings, has so lifted up the Christ-ideal that one feels irresistibly drawn toward Spirit and all things spiritual, because of the purity and loveliness thus revealed, and he voluntarily turns his back upon all that is fleeting and false, thus proving the words of our Master, "And I, if I be lifted up, will draw all men unto me;" and again, "No man cometh unto me except the Father which hath sent me draw him." What an ever increasing debt of gratitude the world owes our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for giving Christian Science to its suffering ones, and we all owe much to her faithful helpers, The Christian Science Publishing Society and the contributors to our periodicals, for making the Sentinel, Journal, Herold, and Monitor what they are, a blessing to all mankind.
To those to whom life has seemed a failure or a very uneven battle, I can heartily recommend the study of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."—N. H. Martyn, Riverside, Cal.
