The reference to Christian Science as a fad does not...

Washington (Ia.) Democrat

The reference to Christian Science as a fad does not indicate the nice discrimination in language which should proceed from one occupying the position of a Christian minister. The Century dictionary defines a "fad" as "a trivial fancy adopted and pursued for a time with irrational zeal; a matter of no importance." To designate Christian Science as "a trivial fancy" is not only to ignore the facts connected with it, but also impugns the intelligence and character of a large number of people who have been immeasurably benefited because of the redemptive influence of this teaching. Moreover, it would stigmatize as "faddists" those who have the temerity to believe that the words of the apostle James are true, "And the prayer of faith shall save the sick." Mrs. Eddy, in "Science and Health with Keyto the Scriptures" (p. 487), has defined the prayer of faith as follows: "This faith relies upon an understood Principle. This Principle makes whole the diseased and brings out the enduring and harmonious phases of things."
