If the committee of English physicians who reported in...
Ottawa (Ont.) Citizen
If the committee of English physicians who reported in effect that all forms of mental and spiritual healing, in which they included Christian Science healing, were the result of mental suggestion, had really investigated the facts of the matter from the standpoint of the true investigator, they would have found:—
1. That Christian Science healing is absolutely spiritual, even as Jesus' healing was wholly spiritual, and that this healing is the very antipode of mental suggestion, which depends entirely upon the belief in the power of one human mind to influence another; while Christian Science healing is based entirely on the understanding that the divine Mind, God, alone heals, and repudiates absolutely the so-called power of the human mind. Only as the Christian Scientist subjects his own human will or mind to the divine Mind, "this mind . . . which was also in Christ Jesus," can he bring out the true healing. Another difference between Christian Science and all other forms of mental healing is that while those systems which make use of the supposed power of the human mind may be used for evil as well as good purposes, Christian Science cannot possibly be misused, teaching as it does the absolute powerlessness of evil and the omnipotence of God only.
2. That Christian Science has healed hundreds of cases of organic disease, many of which were considered incurable. Evidence in support of this healing is so abundant and easy of access to the serious investigator, that one wonders if the committee referred to really tried to gain correct information, or whether they confined their inquiries to those whom they knew would give adverse opinions on the subject. At any rate, the investigation so far as Christian Science is concerned was no investigation, for the facts were not reached.
