FROM OUR EXCHANGES

[Churchman.]

The time has also gone by when those who profess other forms of worship can proclaim themselves as the sole court of appeal by which all of the various types of worship can be judged. There is no indifference in this attitude, for let it be remembered that this generosity comes from an age of Christianity which is more active in spreading the name of Christ among non-Christian peoples than practically any other period of the church's history since the apostolic time. It also comes in a period of the church's history when Christians of every name are convinced that the broad principles of social right and justice should be applied to legislation, government, philanthropy, and business life. All of us should want to be faithful to the Reformation where the Reformation has to teach us faithfulness to Christ. All of us should want to be faithful to the medieval church which produced wide enthusiasm and great men such as Francis of Assisi. But this kind of faithfulness should not obstruct the vision of a broadening faithfulness that can find its satisfaction, not in the deeds and phrases which divide Christian men from one another, but only in loyalty to the absolute command of Christ himself that those who accepted his religion should do his work as the children of one family, with the badge of a common brotherhood.

[Rev. Roger S. Forbes in Christian Register.]
