19th Psalm was learnt by the writer in early childhood, and in later days she had often pondered over the statements in verses seven to nine, and tried without much success to understand the distinctions involved.
A MAJORITY
of the greatest thinkers this world has produced—astronomers, scientists, and philosophers, whose utterances are regarded as authoritative—have acknowledged the necessity for a creative and governing principle in the universe.
CHRISTIAN SCIENTISTS,
when they awaken to the necessity of giving for the support of the Cause of which they are beneficiaries, find that the adoption of the early custom of tithing is a systematic way to begin.
NOT
to proclaim but to do; not to relate but to meditate; not to perceive greatness but to aspire to goodness; not to seek fame but a better faith; not to assume anything but to hope all things—this is the humble spirit that gaineth all things.
The Century Dictionary devotes more than a column to the definition of the word "Christian," and I will therefore give only brief extracts therefrom as follows: "Pertaining to or derived from Christ or his teachings;" "Having adopted or believing in the religion of Christ;" "In accord with or exhibiting the spirit of the teachings of Christ;" "A believer in and follower of Jesus Christ;" "Specifically, one who possesses the spiritual character proper to a follower of Christ; one who exemplifies in his life the teachings of Christ.
In attempting to prove that the distinction made by Christian Science between Jesus and Christ is at variance with Bible teaching, the critic shows that he fails to perceive Mrs.
Every form of mental healing that claims to work through suggestion or through the influence of one human mind over another human mind, is opposed to the teaching of Jesus and diametrically opposed to the Principle and practice of Christian Science healing.
My attention has just been called to a London despatch which contains the following statement concerning a coroner's decision: "The verdict carried a rider to the effect that Christian Science treatment in serious cases was to be deprecated, and that the taking of money in fees by Christian Scientists was decidedly unchristian conduct.
Not for tomorrow does the promise read, But grace today to fill each present need; Each day to feel Love's all-sustaining power; Each day to know that Life is man's great dower; Each day to grow still more to understand That all things good and true are from His hand; And, trusting daily in His tender care, To climb the hilltops and find angels there.
