In the hope of helping some one in a similar case, and also as an expression of gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me, I send this for publication. In 1899 I returned from service in tropical Africa, where I had suffered severely from fever. From that date up to the end of 1907 I experienced constantly recurring attacks of digestive disorder, accompanied by great pain and high temperature. In 1903 I was on this account invalided home from the Mediterranean Station, and then had about half my teeth extracted, as it was believed that this would make me better; but the attacks still continued, and about two years ago I spent three weeks in hospital on account of this trouble.

In the end of 1907, while visiting some friends I became interested in Christian Science, and I was lent a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Without any thought of being healed I commenced the reading of this book. Very shortly afterward I had one more painful attack, since which time I have not only been free from any further attack, but I have been far better in health than I can remember feeling since I was a boy. Physical healing—great as is the salvation in this respect which Christian Science is revealing—is, however, as almost nothing compared to the mental and moral healing which I have experienced through Mrs. Eddy's wonderful discovery. Evil habits and thoughts, together with the grossest sins, had for years held me in bondage; but almost unconsciously, as I read and understood a little of the Christ Science, these passed out of my life.

I had, in search of knowledge, read the Bible and studied more or less diligently Buddhism and various philosophies, but I had almost abandoned hope when this "Key to the Scriptures" revealed to me the fact that we can, as adherents of Truth, "take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health, p. 497). Mrs. Eddy's writings, and the Bible which they spiritually interpret, have become to me an engrossing study. In place of fretfulness and insubordination, I realize more and more the peace of God and the authority of divine Mind, who bringeth forth Mazzaroth in his season and guideth Arcturus with his sons.
