In appreciation of the good I...

In appreciation of the good I have had from reading testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals, I should like to tell of some of my own experiences. As a young girl I often wished that Jesus were here now so as to heal me and others of sin and sickness. I was active in an orthodox church for many years, but I was not satisfied, nor did I gain the understanding I expected. After my two sons were nearly grown I found Christian Science.

I asked my husband if he objected to my investigating Science. He did not object, and after going with me to a practitioner to find out what to do to get started, he lovingly went to the Reading Room to borrow Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. This wonderful book gave me much courage and such a new outlook on life that I could hardly lay it down, for I realized that it contained the key to the Scriptures.

With the help of practitioners and through my own work I have had many healings. A number of difficulties have simply disappeared. I am especially grateful for a healing of migraine, which had troubled me at intervals for many years. One night I awakened in rather severe pain and wondered what I should do, since I did not want to wake anyone in the house or disturb a practitioner at such an hour. For a little while I sat up in bed quite frantic with fear, but "man's extremity is God's opportunity." I knew it was up to me to use what I had learned in Christian Science, and one thing I had to do was to get rid of fear. I lay down and started saying the Lord's Prayer very slowly, trying to understand it as I went along. I did not finish it because I fell asleep. This experience was repeated on two other nights. Then the migraine disappeared, and it has not returned in the four years that have followed.
