For many years Christian Science has brought health and harmony into my life. In 1913 while I was playing a theater in Buffalo, New York, I went into a physician's office seeking relief from severe abdominal pains. After a thorough physical examination the surgeon said that if I wanted to live, I must be operated on immediately for appendicitis. This advice was not taken, however, because I had to do a matinee performance that day and give another performance in the evening. I left the city without going to the hospital. Medicine was taken, but it brought me no relief.

In a small town out West another theater performer told me that he had been healed of a similar illness through the help of a Christian Science practitioner. The name Christian Science meant nothing to me. It was when our act was returning East that I found Christian Science really does heal. I asked for the help of a practitioner, who came to my hotel room.

I felt the love expressed by this worker, and the healing was instantaneous. Although I had been living on liquids for some time, I ate a good meal before boarding the sleeping car, and I experienced no pain. The next day while visiting some friends, I enjoyed a home-cooked meal without feeling any ill effects.
