I feel that I should tell of the...
I feel that I should tell of the healing that brought me into the study of Christian Science.
I was in an automobile accident and was injured quite badly. Several doctors were on the case, and I got some relief but was not cured. Some of the doctors told me that my only chance of being normal was to have an operation, but that the results of an operation would be uncertain. The time came when I had no rest or comfort for three days and nights.
My wife recommended that I try Christian Science, and I agreed to do so. She went to a Reading Room; the attendant gave her a copy of The Christian Science Journal and told her that I could choose a practitioner from those listed in it. This I did, and the practitioner asked me to come to his house. I put on my clothes and cautiously slid down the stairs, because it was too painful for me to walk down. Then I got in my car and drove to the practitioner's house.
The practitioner saw through the window that I was having difficulty in walking, and came out and told me to get back into my car. He gave me a piece of paper with these words written on it: "When you think of trouble, trouble grows. When you think of God, trouble goes." The practitioner told me to think about this statement on my way home, and he said he would do some work for me. I followed his instructions, and when I got home a few minutes later, I ran up the same stairs I had slid down a short time before. I was entirely free and have remained so.
I am very thankful for this healing because it gave me courage to study and apply the truth as revealed in Christian Science. Shortly after my healing I became employed, and I have been on the job for fourteen years without a day off on account of ill-health. Also I became a member of The Mother Church and a branch church. I want to express my deep gratitude to God for Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, shower, for Mary Baker Eddy, our Leader, and for the practitioner who helped me in this healing and who has helped me in other proofs of God's love.—Leonard M. Riggs, Sacramento, California.
